Reshma and Shyamal’s Wedding

As is Hindu custom, Reshma’s hands were painted with intricate henna patterns by family and friends. The ceremony, which was held a few days later, started in bright, colorful and loud style.

 

Several days later Shyamal led a grand procession and motorcade to the ceremony held at Nine Darling Street, Toorak and was greeted by traditional dancers. He is greeted at the door and proceeds to the ceremonial stage.

 

Meanwhile, Reshma was waiting dressed in an exquisitely elaborate traditional sari and was finally brought to the stage to meet Shyamal. The ceremony includes offerings of puffed rice, flours, herbs and spices, presided over the by the pundit where they were purified and presented to each other and gave each other garlands of flowers. After the reception and dinner there was an emotional farewell as Reshma ceremonially bid goodbye to her family home to go and live with the Groom’s family. They traveled to the Groom’s family home and were welcomed with prayers and offerings.

 

Such an elaborate and high energy celebration is time consuming and hard to cram into a tight schedule. Luckily, Serendipity was able to offer Reshma and Shyamal a separate location photography day at an easier time. Location photography occurred the following day at a more relaxed pace, at the Carlton gardens and a wonderfully poignant shoot of the couple at the beach as a glorious sunset called an end to the day.

 

Finally, the final night of celebration was at hand the following night. Reshma wore a new traditional outfit to her regular reception at the Golden Sands. This spectacular reception had all the high-energy celebration of a Bollywood romance, with dancing, drums, feasting and performances from sisters and cousins lasting long into the night.
